$50,000 in Scholarships Awarded by Sunrise Cooperative

May 09, 2024

Fremont, Ohio – May 9, 2024 - Sunrise Cooperative, Inc. is pleased to announced its recipients of their annual Sunrise Cooperative college scholarships. This year Sunrise offered fifty, $1,000 scholarships for common stockholder's and/or employee' children and grandchildren. A total of 201 students entered to compete for the common stockholder scholarships, while 23 competed for the employee scholarships. All students awarded are or will be enrolled in a two or four-year college program. Over the past twelve years, Sunrise has awarded more than $600,000 in scholarships and is excited to continue the program this year.

Applicants were required to compete in a scholarship essay contest, writing a minimum of one page on the topic of agriculture. Essays ranged from describing the use of various technologies on the farm to the importance of agriculture in our growing world. Although the essay topic was agriculture focused, the contest was open to students of any degree so long as they or a family member (parent or grandparent) is a member or employee of Sunrise Cooperative. The scholarship winners will be awarded the $1,000 to be used during the 2024-2025 fall and spring semesters.

Terra State Community College in Fremont reviewed the written entries and narrowed them down to the finalists for each scholarship. Each finalist was invited to an oral interview to discuss his or her interest in agriculture and future education plans.

“Our Board of Directors annually support our scholarship program as a way to invest in the future leaders in our communities,” said George D. Secor, President/CEO of Sunrise. “We are committed to providing an avenue to give our youth a jumpstart on their career ambitions.”

Below is a complete list of scholarship recipients. For more information about the scholarship program, contact Morgan Niedermier, Vice President of Marketing at 419-332-6468 extension 222 or by email at morganniedermier@sunriseco-op.com.
